We will soon be welcoming custom app submissions for The DHIS2 Annual Conference App Competition!
The goal of the App Competition is to showcase the innovative work being done by developers around the world, using DHIS2 for both web and mobile devices, and to highlight how the DHIS2 App Platform and Android SDK make it easier to develop custom apps using shared tools.
This year, we're expanding the competition to include any extension of DHIS2 including web apps, Android apps, integration tooling, dashboard or capture plugins, and more. To be eligible, any extension must simply meet the following requirements:
1. It must be generic and reusable.
2. It must be available to the public (for example, on the app hub), and be open-source.
3. It should be useful and have the potential for impact.
4. (Optional but recommended) It should make use of the extensibility tools provided by the DHIS2 core team, such as the App Platform, the Android SDK, the DHIS2 Camel Component, and DHIS2 REST API, and more.
As always, the finalists selected from all submissions will be invited to present their extensions live at the Annual Conference, where the audience will select this year's winner.
If you are considering a submission this year, please fill out this simple form expressing your interest as soon as possible - even if you're not yet sure what you might build!
We will accept submissions starting in April, with the final deadline for submissions on May 4, 2025, but you can start developing your app today!
We are excited to see what great innovations you will share with the community this year!
Background: Fostering Innovation through DHIS2 Common Tools
Recent years have seen an increasing number of DHIS2 applications developed independently by the global DHIS2 community. These apps typically offer features and functionalities that are outside the scope of core DHIS2 applications. Some are generic and could be broadly adopted, while others target specific DHIS2 use cases.
The development of these applications ultimately enhances the DHIS2 experience for the end user and strengthens the DHIS2 platform ecosystem in general. To support this – and specially to make it easier for developers to design their own apps that integrate seamlessly into the DHIS2 core software – we have published toolkits for both the Web and Android App development communities:
- DHIS2 App Platform: Shares a suite of common tools that can be used to develop DHIS2 Web Apps with ease: Read more
- DHIS2 Android Software Development Kit (SDK): Facilitates the development of Android Apps using DHIS2 as the underlying platform. Read more
The purpose of our competition is to showcase innovative DHIS2 Apps that make an impact, and to highlight how using these shared tools can help turn an app idea into a reality.
We invite DHIS2 application developers from around the world to submit their best work. Members of the DHIS2 Development team will review the submissions and rank them based on standardized criteria (coming soon).
Selected finalists will have the opportunity to present their application during the conference, and voting will be held to choose the DHIS2 Web & Android Apps of the Year!
