Session Information

Accurate, timely cancer data is essential for informing national cancer control strategies, resource planning, and patient care. This session focuses on the integration of CanReg5-the IARC's cancer registry software-with DHIS2, highlighting the benefits of interoperable systems and the growing movement toward standardized cancer data collection within national health information systems.
After an introduction to DHIS2 from WHO, the session will feature country experiences from Maldives MoH which has developed a cancer registry in DHIS2 Tracker.
The session will also include input from the CanReg5 development team and discuss ongoing country-level efforts to align cancer registration processes with global data standards. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of structured data entry, secure patient tracking, and consistent classification (e.g., ICD-O), and how DHIS2 can support integration with other national health programs, including screening and treatment monitoring. Speakers will share practical insights on data workflows, interoperability mechanisms, and how DHIS2 can be leveraged to enhance reporting, analysis, and use of cancer data at multiple levels of the health system.
Whether you are working in cancer surveillance, health information systems, or program implementation, this session will offer concrete examples and tools to help advance cancer registry initiatives using DHIS2 and CanReg5 together.
